Online access is not nationwide occupational authorization
A course might be offered to every Canadian while employer-specific, hands-on or provincial requirements still apply. We distinguish federal credentials, nationally transferable qualifications, and paid online training. No credential automatically guarantees employment.
NATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Federally governed credentials
Credentials tied to federal operating rules. National scope is restricted to the activities described in each credential.
Federal credentialReviewed
Drone Pilot Certificate — Basic Operations
Transport Canada
Recognition
Federal pilot credential for permitted basic drone operations across Canada
Delivery
Online government exam; certificate issued after passing
Cost
Government exam fee
Before you pay: Age 14+; aviation operating restrictions and registration still apply. This does not authorize advanced drone flying.
Marine Radio Restricted Operator Certificate ROC(M)
CanBoat / NautiSavoir
Recognition
National maritime VHF radio operator qualification for its authorized scope
Delivery
Online self-study or classes; examiner-administered written and verbal assessment
Cost
Paid course and examination
Before you pay: Final exam requires an examiner, remotely or in person. ROC(M) does not replace commercial-maritime qualifications such as ROC-MC when required.
Qualifying experience or apprenticeship followed by applicable exam
Cost
Training/examination costs vary
Before you pay: This is not an instant e-certificate. A Red Seal endorsement on a provincial or territorial trade certificate is not a substitute for separate local occupational licensing requirements.
Canadian lifeguarding award transferable between provinces and territories
Delivery
In-person practical training and assessment
Cost
Course fees vary
Before you pay: National Lifeguard requires prerequisite awards and applicable first aid, and is not online-only. Employers and jurisdictions may require current certification or further checks.

Canadian technical certification pathway under NRCan's NDT program
Delivery
Recognized training, documented work experience, exams and application
Cost
Training, application and exam fees
Before you pay: Not online-only. Verify recognized training organizations before paying; additional experience, vision and practical-exam requirements apply.
People across Canada can enrol, but completion does not automatically satisfy each employer or provincial regulator.

WHMIS for Workers — Online Course
Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)
Recognition
Nationwide safety education; certificate of course completion
Delivery
Self-paced online course with final assessment
Cost
Paid e-course
Before you pay: General WHMIS completion does not replace job- and workplace-specific instruction. It is not a universal authorization to handle every hazardous product.
Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS)
Recognition
Nationwide introductory education, not an employer TDG training certificate
Delivery
Online course; completion certificate
Cost
Paid e-course
Before you pay: The CCOHS completion certificate is NOT a TDG Certificate of Training. Applicable job-specific training and an employer-issued certificate remain required.
Online enrolment across Canada; Ontario-recognized provider verified
Delivery
Online lessons; webcam-proctored examination on a computer
Cost
Paid course/exam
Before you pay: CIFS reports nationwide acceptance; ASK SHAI independently confirmed the Ontario approved-provider listing, not every jurisdiction. The French-language version is not accepted in Manitoba according to CIFS. Verify local rules before paying.
Canadian Red Cross and authorized training partners
Recognition
National courses; workplace acceptance depends on the receiving jurisdiction
Delivery
In-person or blended; hands-on skills assessment
Cost
Paid training-partner course
Before you pay: A remotely completed theory module is not the whole practical certification. Confirm current course level, provincial requirements and Québec workplace rules.
Issuer. Who gives you the document: regulator, apprenticeship authority, certifying body, approved provider, or course seller?
Credential type. Is it a completion record, a professional qualification, a federal certificate or an employer-issued safety record?
Jurisdiction. Does it satisfy the actual provincial/territorial, federal or employer requirement for your planned work?
Practical components. Is a webcam, examination supervisor, in-person skills test, work experience, travel or recertification needed?
Actual cost. Confirm final price, taxes, examination attempts, renewals, refunds and language before paying the original provider.
Northern and remote access
Before paying, confirm device requirements and whether a course can be completed on a smartphone. Online exams may need a computer, webcam or reliable broadband; practical tests may require travel. Downloadable reading material is not the same as complete remote certification.
Questions
Are these courses free?
No. Browsing ASK SHAI is free; providers or issuing authorities generally charge for training, exams or certification. Fees and eligibility may vary. Subsidized training may be available separately.
Can I use every certificate for employment anywhere in Canada?
No. Federal credentials have federal scope, transferable qualifications have defined requirements, and online completion records may not satisfy provincial, workplace or employer rules. Check your intended job and location before enrolment.
Does ASK SHAI issue certificates or process payment?
No. Enrolment, payment, assessment, issuing, refunds and credential verification belong to the respective provider. ASK SHAI does not collect your certificate number, identity documents or training records.
Are these providers partners of ASK SHAI?
