Research Report Template
Create a report that separates evidence, interpretation and uncertainty. Includes a source register, method review and a decision-focused worked example.
SECTION 1 / PREVIEW
Decision and research question
Name the decision the report will support before collecting material. A question such as “Should we pilot an evening workshop?” is more useful than “Research workshops.” Define the audience, place, time period and what evidence would change the decision. Do not expand the question to match interesting material you happen to find.

What decision, population and time period does this report cover?
Worked fictional example: Fictional decision: whether one community centre should run a six-week evening learning pilot for adults. No claim is made about any real community.

Final task in the full edition
Draft a recommendation supported by an evidence matrix with at least one conflicting finding, a limitation and an alternative including no action.
Check: every factual claim has a source; counts have denominators; interpretation is labeled; conflicting evidence is retained; recommendation follows the method limits. A small convenience sample cannot justify population estimates.
Version 1.1. Bring a research question and sources you have permission to use. Personal use or internal use within one purchaser-owned business/project. Share your outputs, not the supplied content. Classroom redistribution and resale are excluded.
What you will do in the scenario lab
Source and claim audit lab. Select the strongest claim in your draft. Write the narrow claim the original source actually supports, an alternative interpretation and what would change your recommendation.
Editable fields: Claims in your draft; Claims linked to an accessible source; Claims with a contradictory finding checked; Claims with an explicit limitation; Independent original sources. Includes a fictional example, invalid-input feedback and backup/restore for your work.
Allow 1–3 hours for written exercises and the applied lab; independent evidence gathering takes longer. This is a planning estimate, not tested completion time.
Current desktop or mobile browser. Offline HTML; JSON backup and print/save PDF. No AI, account or installation.
