Self-paced short course

Startup Basics

Six practical modules to define an offer, test assumptions, calculate delivery economics and make a small-launch decision. Includes exercises and knowledge checks; no accredited qualification or income promise.

SECTION 1 / PREVIEW

Start with a customer problem

A business idea is not yet evidence of demand. Choose a customer group you can describe concretely and a problem they already experience. Ask what they currently do, how often the issue occurs and what would justify paying for a different solution. Keep guesses visible. A problem you personally enjoy solving may still be too rare or too expensive to serve.

Try the exercise

Write one customer problem, a current workaround and three assumptions to test.

Worked fictional example: A founder likes making elaborate planners; customer conversations instead reveal demand for a simple appointment reminder sheet.

Final task in the full edition

Assemble a customer problem, evidence log, scoped offer, cost model, delivery checklist and a 30-day experiment. Choose go, revise or stop with reasons.

Score 0 absent / 1 assumed / 2 evidenced for demand, economics, capacity, permissions and stop rule. Any zero needs a next action before launch. Strong quiz recognition does not replace completing the practical task.

Version 1.1. Bring an idea and time for independent practice; no business experience required. Personal use or internal use within one purchaser-owned business/project. Share your outputs, not the supplied content. Classroom redistribution and resale are excluded.

What you will do in the scenario lab

Evidence-to-launch decision lab. Compare five positive conversations with one delivered paid trial. Which is stronger evidence of a workable offer, and what does neither establish? Write the next reversible experiment.

Editable fields: Customer conversations; Specific trial commitments; Completed paid trials; Trials delivered within promised scope; Trial contribution after direct costs. Includes a fictional example, invalid-input feedback and backup/restore for your work.

Allow 1–3 hours for written exercises and the applied lab; independent evidence gathering takes longer. This is a planning estimate, not tested completion time.
